(NZCGT) Contestable Grant Round 2023

Applicants should carefully consider the criteria and Terms and Conditions, which may be varied from time to time.

Public Trust is the Trustee of the New Zealand Communities Growth Trust (NZCGT). The Trust was established by a Court Order dated 3 April 2000.

Who is eligible: Applications are open to:

  • Organisations (registered with Charities Services) that provide services to New Zealanders or to projects or organisations within New Zealand that meet the objectives of the Trust as outlined under each of the purposes: 1)Counselling and Therapeutic, 2) Education or 3) Public Benefit;

           or

  • Incorporated societies (registered with NZ Companies Office) that provide services to New Zealanders or to projects or organisations within New Zealand that meet the objectives of the Trust as outlined under each of the purposes: 1)Counselling and Therapeutic, 2) Education or 3) Public Benefit;

      Organisations or incorporated societies may generally have national operations.

Category 1

Therapeutic and Counselling: Organisations providing professional support services consistent with the purposes of the Trust by:

  • Supporting the establishment of refuges for members of the wider community who need spiritual, psychological, or emotional assistance,

or

  • Supporting professional counselling services and conducting seminars and workshops for people in the wider community dealing with psychological, emotional, or social conflicts.

or

  • Supporting a professional counselling and support service for adults and children in the wider community who have been the victims of sexual, physical, and emotional abuse, including institutional and cult abuse.

or

  • Making available qualified professional support as an adjunct to the above therapeutic or counselling objects. Such counselling or therapeutic services must be registered with an appropriate professional body and must comply with the protocols and monitoring of such body.

If you are not an organisation providing professional support services consistent with the above - please do not apply under this purpose as you are not eligible and will not be considered for funding.

Category 2

EducationTo organisations providing services that meet the purposes of the Trust. This is a fairly broad objective. Effectively supporting the provision of educational opportunities for the development of work and life skills consistent with the purposes of the Trust.

Any of the following would qualify:

  • Counselling skills relating to psychological, emotional or social conflicts as well as sexual, physical and emotional abuse, including any skills which would provide assistance in the provision of those types of counselling.

or

  • Skills which would give the recipient the ability to achieve a standard of living which enhances and sustains a quality of life that is not exploitative of the environment or people and that is permanent, healthy and sustainable for future generations.

or

  • Skills which will give the recipient the ability to understand and follow the concept of communal living where material and human resources are shared and made available to others.

or

  • Skills necessary to support the establishment of a community or communities in New Zealand and to provide ongoing support for any such community or communities which conduct themselves on the precepts of co-operation and respect of their members. Any such organisation must prohibit the exploitation, abuse and/or damage to the self-esteem of their members and act entirely within the laws of New Zealand.

or

  • Skills which would relieve the poverty of the recipient or enable the recipient to assist in the relief of poverty of persons who have been disadvantaged by cults and/or spiritual communities and in particular past residents of the Centrepoint Community and their children.

If you are not an organisation supporting education opportunities for the development of work or life skills consistent with the above - please do not apply under this purpose as you are not eligible and will not be considered for funding.

Category 3

Public BenefitOrganisations promoting a standard of living for the wider community that is not exploitative of the environment and that is permanent, healthy and sustainable for future generations:

  • A standard of living which enhances and sustains a quality of life that is not exploitative of the environment or people and that is permanent, healthy and sustainable for future generations.

or

  • The concept of communal living where material and human resources are shared and made available to others.

or

  • The establishment of a community or communities in New Zealand and to provide on-going support for those. Any such community or communities must conduct themselves on the precepts of co-operation and respect of their members and to prohibit the exploitation, abuse and/or damage to the self-esteem of their members and act entirely within the laws of New Zealand.

or

  • Organisations focusing on initiatives with an environmental, health and sustainability focus.

If you are not an organisation promoting a standard of living that is permanent, healthy and sustainable consistent with the above - please do not apply under this purpose as you are not eligible and will not be considered for funding.

Important dates

The applications are to be completed and submitted via Public Trust online Granting System ‘SmartyGrants’.

  • Applications are open from 9am on 30 October 2023 and close at 5pm on 15 December 2023.
  • Applicants will be advised of the outcome by 28 February 2024.  (Please note this date is subject to change. You will be notified of any changes to the email address which you submitted on your application)

Late applications will not be accepted.

Notes

  • Applicants will generally have national operations and be applying for nationwide funding rather than region based.
  • An organisation can only make one application per grant round.
  • Preference will be given to applications for specific projects or programmes.
  • Multi-year grants and or partial grants may be considered.
  • Public Trust Charities Team will contact you if we require any further information to consider your application.

Step 2: Register or login to apply online

  • First time users will need to register.

Note: Please store your login details in a safe place for future reference.

  • Once registered, you can login to the system and start your application.

Step 3: Complete your Application

  • The application is best viewed/completed on a non-mobile device.
  • Complete all of the required questions – mandatory questions are marked with an *
  • Attach all required supporting documents.

Note: Our preferred format for attachments is PDF, Excel, Word or JPG.  Supporting materials cannot exceed 25MB in size, as files exceeding this will not upload.

Hint: Save your work regularly so it is not lost if you time out or lose your connection.

You can save your application at any stage and return to it later. Make sure the spell checker is switched on in your browser to prevent spelling errors.

Step 4: Review and submit your Application

  • When you are satisfied with your application press the review button to ensure that all required sections of the application have been completed (you must do this before the submit button is enabled).
  • Submit your application.

Note: Once you have submitted your application no further editing or uploading of supporting documents is possible.

Step 5: What happens next?

  • You will receive an automated email confirming your submission with a copy of your application attached and information about how/when your Application will be assessed.  This will be sent to the email you used to register. 

If you do not receive a confirmation email then your Application has not been successfully submitted (remember to check your spam email folder when looking for the email).

  • We will contact you if we require any further information to consider your Application.
