The Louisa and Patrick Emmett Murphy Foundation was established to support charitable organisations within New Zealand, with a primary focus on the Auckland region. The Settlor’s intention is to fund initiatives that deliver meaningful benefits to communities within the Auckland “Super City” boundaries (broadly from Wellsford to Pukekohe).
The Foundation prioritises projects and programmes that:
- Provide assistance and care for people who are terminally ill
- Improve the quality of life for older people
- Support individuals suffering from illness within the community
Granting Funding:
- Minimum grant: $10,000
- Maximum grant: $30,000
- All funding amounts are GST exclusive
Preference will be given to applications seeking funding for a specific project or programme, rather than general organisational operating costs.
To be eligible for funding, applicants must:
- Be a registered charity with Charities Services (under the Charities Act 2005; Reg. No. CC27048 applies to the Foundation)
- Operate within, or deliver services that benefit, the Auckland region
- Demonstrate that the proposed project or programme directly supports one or more of the Foundation’s priority areas:
- Care for the terminally ill
- Improved quality of life for older people
- Assistance for people experiencing illness
Applicants must:
- Submit a complete application by the specified deadline
- Provide financial statements that comply with Charities Services reporting standards
- Attach the same financial statements used in their most recent Charities Services filing
- Ensure that any previous grant (if awarded in 2025) has been fully accounted for, including uploading receipts to the SmartyGrants system or making alternative arrangements with the Trustee
The Foundation will not consider applications that:
- Are incomplete or submitted after the deadline
- Request retrospective funding
- Are from individuals, sports organisations, or service clubs
- Relate to projects based outside New Zealand
- Do not directly benefit people within the Auckland region
- Request funding below $10,000 or above $30,000
- Fail to meet financial reporting requirements
- Have outstanding accountability obligations from previous funding
