Background
The LW Nelson Junior Scholarship was established in 1958 by Northland farmer and businessman Laurence William Nelson. The Scholarship is managed and administered by Public Trust.
Scholarship Criteria
The Scholarship is available to students seeking to attend a boarding school within the Trust’s funding region, which covers the Northland area, including the districts of Kaipara, Whangārei, and the Far North.
Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
- Be aged 13 years or younger
- Reside within the Northland area (Kaipara, Whangārei, and Far North districts)
- Require boarding in order to attend school and would otherwise be unable to do so
All scholarships are conditional upon the applicant being enrolled as a boarder at a school located within the Trust’s funding region, as specified in the application.
Scholarship Tenure
The successful applicant will receive an annual contribution towards boarding fees for an initial period of three years. Continuation of the scholarship for the second and third years is subject to an annual request and review.
