Kiley Family Memorial Trust Tertiary Scholarships 2018

IMPORTANT: Please read information below to assist you in completing your application online.

The Kiley Family Memorial Trust was established in 2000 by brothers, Peter and John Kiley. Revenue from the Kiley Family Trust owned farms in Taranaki fund the Kiley Family Memorial Trust Scholarships to help young people who are facing challenges in their education, be it financial or otherwise.

Preference is given to students from less well-off backgrounds who meet the following criteria (in order of priority).

  • Wish to attend a boarding school or tertiary institution away from home
  • Have included agriculture in their field of study
  • Desire ultimately to take up a career in farming, farm management or an agriculture-based industry
  • Intend to enrol, or have enrolled, at St Patrick's College, Silverstream (preferably) or at any other Catholic Boarding School
  • Live in the Taranaki/Wanganui area
  • Have an interest in the care of horses
  • Are actively involved in sport.

Scholarship Terms and Conditions

The following are the terms and conditions applicable to applications and may be varied from time to time by Public Trust as trustee of the Kiley Family Memorial Trust.

Each tertiary scholarship will be for an indicative amount of up to $3,000 per annum and may be awarded over a period of three years. Preference will be given to agricultural study.

The application form be completed and submitted via Public Trust online Granting System and include the following:

  • a reference from the applicant’s school Principal or Dean
  • reference from applicant’s current employer, if applicable
  • a 250 word essay on “Why you are doing your chosen course of study?”, “What is your intended  career?” and “What you would like to achieve with your qualification and in your career”
  • Confirmation of family income
  • Full course details including annual cost are to be provided.
  • Past academic records and/or other achievements are to be provided.

Please note late applications will not be accepted.

Notes

  • The value of the scholarship may differ from year to year and may also differ between applicants.
  • The Committee reserves the right to withhold the payment of any amounts due under the Scholarship in the event of the misconduct of any person holding the Scholarship.
  • In most instances, payment will be made direct to the education provider on proof/confirmation of enrolment.  If you require part of the payment to allow you to purchase books, accommodation, computer or travel, this will need to be broken down and clearly shown in your application.

Important Dates

Applications close on Friday the 31st of August at 5pm. . 

All applications are considered by the Trustee and successful applicants will be advised of the outcome at the 2018 Senior Prizegiving. The decision of the Trustee is final and no further discussion will be entertained. 

Unsuccessful applicants will be advised of the outcome of their application by December the 15th 2018

Continuation for future years.

Scholarship payments for future years are considered at the discretion of Public Trust, as Trustee and subject to satisfactory  performance by the applicant in the preceeding year. Applicants seeking continuation of a scholarship payment should apply in writing:

After the first year, and in order to receive further assistance, applicants are required to request continuation of scholarship to Public Trust before the 30th of September each year. This request must include:

(a) a brief review of the previous year and exam results.

(b) an outline of the intended study for the year ahead

(c) a brief update of current financial circumstances including family income.

Step 2: Register or login to apply online

  • First time users will need to register.

  • Once registered, you can login to the system and start your application.

Step 3: Complete your Application

  • The application is best viewed/completed on a non-mobile device.
  • Complete all of the required questions – mandatory questions are marked with an *
  • Attach all required supporting documents .

Note: Our preferred format for attachments is PDF, Excel, Word or JPG.  Supporting materials cannot exceed 25MB in size, as files exceeding this will not upload.

Hint: Save your work regularly so it is not lost if you time out or lose your connection.

You can save your application at any stage and return to it later. Make sure the spell checker is switched on in your browser to prevent spelling errors.

Step 4: Review and submit your Application

  • When you are satisfied with your application press the review button to ensure that all required sections of the application have been completed (you must do this before the submit button is enabled).
  • Submit your application.

  Note: Once you have submitted your application no further editing or uploading of supporting documents is possible.

Step 5: What happens next?

  • You will receive an automated email confirming your submission with a copy of your application attached and information about how/when your Application will be assessed.  This will be sent to the email you used to register. 

If you do not receive a confirmation email then your Application has not been successfully submitted (don’t forget to check your spam email folder when looking for the email).

  • We will contact you if we require any further information to consider your Application.
