Music Grant Information

Under the Will of the late Miss Swadling, a share of the income from the estate is to be applied annually towards Music grants as per the clause in the Will below:

“The advancement of musical education in the Taranaki Province whether by the granting of scholarships or bursaries or other assistance to persons who are under the age of twenty-one (21) years to enable or assist them to obtain musical training or education or by fostering in any other ways knowledge and appreciation of good music.”

A committee was appointed under the Will to consider applications. The committee comprises of the Methodist Ministers for the time being at Hawera and Kaponga and Public Trust.

The committee gives preferences given to the following criteria:
1. Applicants from less well-off backgrounds
2. Applicants whom have been participating in music for a number of years

Terms and Conditions


The following are the terms and conditions are applicable to applications and may be varied from time to time by Public Trust as trustee of the Estate of Doris Elizabeth Geraldine Swadling.

Please complete the application form including all supporting information and submit it by 5pm on the 30TH of November 2017. Applications received after this date may be accepted at Public Trust’s discretion.

Applications for the grant must have attached:
• a reference from the current music teacher
• a certified copy of your birth certificate/passport confirming you are under the age of 21.

Applicants will be advised whether they have been successful or not by the end of January 2018 at the latest.

Grants awarded will be paid direct to the tertiary provider or music teacher on production of enrolment or an invoice.

Decisions made by the Committee in relation to any grants are final and the Trustee may seek such information

regarding the applicant as deemed necessary to assist the Committee in making a decision on any application.

  • Once registered, you can login to the system and start your application.

Step 3: Complete your Application

  • The application is best viewed/completed on a non-mobile device.
  • Complete all of the required questions – mandatory questions are marked with an *
  • Attach all required supporting documents (Full Applications only).

Note: Our preferred format for attachments is PDF, Excel, Word or JPG.  Supporting materials cannot exceed 25MB in size, as files exceeding this will not upload.

Hint:  Save your work regularly so it is not lost if you time out or lose your connection.

You can save your application at any stage and return to it later.

Make sure the spell checker is switched on in your browser to prevent spelling errors.

Step 4:  Review and submit your Application

  • When you are satisfied with your application press the review button to ensure that all required sections of the application have been completed (you must do this before the submit button is enabled).
  • Submit your application.

Note: Once you have submitted your application no further editing or uploading of supporting documents is possible.

Step 5: What happens next?

  • You will receive an automated email confirming your submission with a copy of your application attached and information about how/when your Application will be assessed.  This will be sent to the email you used to register.

If you do not receive a confirmation email then your Application has not been successfully submitted (don’t forget to check your spam email folder when looking for the email).

  • We will contact you if we require any further information to consider your Application.
