Barrington Miller Trust Scholarship

Scholarship Information

Mr William Barrington Miller lived in Gisborne for most of his life. He stated that this was the best and happiest part of his life and that he owes a great deal to the people of Gisborne and the surrounding districts for the kindness, help, support and encouragement he received during his time there.

Because of this, he established a Trust to provide financial assistance to boys desiring to further their education after High School.

Applications for scholarships towards the related costs of obtaining a 'higher form of education’ include the following:

  • Any professional development in a trade or commerce; and

  • Training as an artisan or mechanic; and

  • Education at a New Zealand University or other accepted tertiary education provider.

Criteria 

Applications are only open to school leavers. 

Preference will be given to applicants who can demonstrate the following:

  • are boys of good character
  • residency in the Gisborne Region for at least ten years
  • proven intellectual ability and scholastic achievement
  • a fondness for outdoor sports

To complete your application, you’ll need to fill out the form and upload all required documents. This includes:

  • Academic details
  • Your proposed course of study
  • Financial information
  • Supporting documents (including references)

Terms and Conditions: The following terms and conditions apply:

  • Scholarships are only to be awarded for one year maximum.
  • Funds must be used towards the costs of higher education or study related costs

The decision of the Trustee is final and no further discussion will be entered into.

  • Applications are open from 9am on the 1st of July 2026 to 5pm on 31st August 2026.
