A W Shaw Scholarship 2026

Scholarship Information Sheet

The late Mr Allan Shaw was deeply committed to education and established this Trust to help make tertiary study accessible for students from Orewa College.

The Trust came into effect following Mr Shaw’s death on 8 June 2006.

It was Mr Shaw’s wish that four new scholarships be awarded each year, two to male students and two to female students. Preference was to be given to high achieving academic students who would experience financial hardship in pursuing tertiary education. He also expressed a strong desire that consideration be given to students whose personal or family circumstances may create financial barriers to undertaking tertiary study.

Mr Shaw further directed that all scholarship recipients must hold New Zealand citizenship.

Public Trust administers the scholarship funds on behalf of the Trust. Each year, the Committee awards a minimum of six scholarships across two categories:

  • Academic Scholarships
  • Financial Scholarships
